"An Introduction to Robotics:
Robotics is a branch of technology that deals with the design, construction and application of robots. The term “Robot” was coined by the Czech writer Karel Capek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots), published in 1920.
A robot is a mechanical contraption that can perform tasks on its own (autonomous) or with guidance (semi-autonomous). The boundary between a machine and a robot is sometimes blurred. The key differentiator for a robot is that it is able to sense its environment and make decisions.
Although the typical interpretation of a robot is a humanoid form, most robots in the real world do not resemble humans. The last few decades have seen the successful application of robots to various fields. The trend is likely to continue with more applications becoming feasible day by day.
