An experienced academician and certified Executive and Happiness Coach, she has long advocated for nurturing the intellectual and emotional lives of students and educators alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In her view, the accurate measure of a nation\u2019s strength lies not in its economic output or technological advancements, but in the&nbsp;<strong>youth emotional resilience<\/strong>&nbsp;and inner health of its people, especially its youth. And this begins in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-essential-blocks-advanced-heading  root-eb-advance-heading-y40hk\"><div class=\"eb-parent-wrapper eb-parent-eb-advance-heading-y40hk \"><div class=\"eb-advance-heading-wrapper eb-advance-heading-y40hk button-1 undefined\" data-id=\"eb-advance-heading-y40hk\"><h2 class=\"eb-ah-title\"><span class=\"first-title\"><strong>A Growing Concern: The Emotional Health of the Young<\/strong><\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the World Health Organization, one in eight people globally lives with a mental health disorder. Beyond their role as subject matter experts, they must be equipped to identify early signs of distress in students.&nbsp;<strong>Supporting teachers in schools<\/strong>&nbsp;through professional development programs should include training in&nbsp;<strong>mental health curriculum<\/strong>&nbsp;and first-line emotional support strategies. \u201cA teacher who can notice the unspoken pain in a child\u2019s silence is worth more than a dozen textbooks,\u201d Ms. Chowdhury reflects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-essential-blocks-advanced-heading  root-eb-advance-heading-7o07c\"><div class=\"eb-parent-wrapper eb-parent-eb-advance-heading-7o07c \"><div class=\"eb-advance-heading-wrapper eb-advance-heading-7o07c button-1 undefined\" data-id=\"eb-advance-heading-7o07c\"><h2 class=\"eb-ah-title\"><span class=\"first-title\"><strong>Institutional Culture and Mental Health Infrastructure<\/strong><\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While curriculum changes are essential, they must be matched by systemic support. Just as schools invest in state-of-the-art labs, libraries, and sports facilities, they must also invest in&nbsp;<strong>school counsellor importance<\/strong>&nbsp;and mental health infrastructure. In-house counsellors should not be a luxury or an afterthought but a standard feature in every school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At&nbsp;<strong>Delhi Public School Rewari<\/strong>, Ms. Chowdhury has championed the creation of&nbsp;<strong>safe emotional spaces in schools<\/strong>&nbsp;where students and staff can speak freely, seek guidance, and feel heard. Teaching is a profession of immense emotional labor. Yet, teachers are frequently expected to navigate their challenges silently while supporting others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms. Chowdhury strongly advocates for introducing&nbsp;<strong>teacher mental health support<\/strong>, mental health leaves, regular wellness check-ins, and safe avenues for staff to express and process their emotions. Institutions must create a culture where it is acceptable for educators to prioritise their mental health without stigma or judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHappy teachers make for healthy classrooms,\u201d she states simply. \u201cA burnt-out teacher cannot ignite the flame of learning in others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-essential-blocks-advanced-heading  root-eb-advance-heading-0hkv3\"><div class=\"eb-parent-wrapper eb-parent-eb-advance-heading-0hkv3 \"><div class=\"eb-advance-heading-wrapper eb-advance-heading-0hkv3 button-1 undefined\" data-id=\"eb-advance-heading-0hkv3\"><h2 class=\"eb-ah-title\"><span class=\"first-title\"><strong>Breaking the Stigma: A Collective Responsibility<\/strong><\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stigma remains one of the most significant barriers to addressing mental health effectively. In many parts of India, seeking psychological help is still viewed with suspicion or shame. Ms. Chowdhury believes that this narrative must change\u2014urgently and collectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe must normalise the idea that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness,\u201d she says. \u201cThe more openly we talk about it, the more we create a culture of acceptance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Digital platforms<\/strong>&nbsp;can be powerful allies in this regard. Tele-counselling, awareness campaigns, and&nbsp;<strong>online mental health education<\/strong>&nbsp;can play significant roles in reaching underserved and rural populations.
