conflict and division, the role of theatre in education has become more significant than ever. A well-crafted stage production not only entertains but also encourages students to question, reflect, and empathise with the world around them. Demonstrating this beautifully, the Dramatics Club of Bal Bharati Public School, GRH Marg, presented its Annual Play on 7th August 2026, delivering a powerful message on the importance of peace, humanity and compassion. Inspired by Dharamvir Bharati&#8217;s celebrated play <strong>Andha Yug<\/strong>, the production was conceptualised, scripted and directed by the school&#8217;s drama teacher, Dr Ankush Sharma. More than a theatrical performance, it served as an educational experience that encouraged students and audiences alike to contemplate the devastating consequences of hatred and violence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Timeless Story with Contemporary Relevance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Set in the aftermath of the Mahabharata war, the play explored the emotional and moral consequences of conflict rather than its victories. While rooted in Indian mythology, the narrative resonated strongly with the challenges facing today&#8217;s world, where wars, social unrest, and intolerance continue to impact countless lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By drawing parallels between the ancient battlefield of Kurukshetra and present-day conflicts, the production invited the audience to reflect upon a profound question: &#8220;Who won?&#8221; Rather than celebrating triumph, the performance emphasised that every war leaves behind irreversible loss, fractured relationships and diminished humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The production reinforced the idea that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of compassion, understanding and mutual respect, values that remain essential in modern society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Theatre as a Powerful Learning Experience<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">School theatre extends far beyond memorising dialogues and performing on stage. Their performances demonstrated dedication, discipline and an impressive understanding of complex emotional themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through expressive acting, evocative music and impactful stagecraft, the young artistes successfully conveyed the emotional weight of the story. She described theatre as an important medium of communication, creativity and self-expression that contributes significantly to students&#8217; emotional well-being and holistic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guest of Distinction Mr Rajesh Kumar Singh, Chief of the Repertory Company at the National School of Drama, described theatre as a truly collective art form.
