The education sector is navigating two significant challenges: attracting and retaining effective teachers while adapting to the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital learning. These themes took centre stage at the South India Educators\u2019 Summit & Dynamic Schools Award<\/a>, where school leaders exchanged perspectives on building stronger teaching teams and preparing institutions for an evolving educational landscape. Through two panel discussions, the event, covered by Education News Network<\/a>, explored the importance of teacher development, empathetic leadership, responsible technology adoption, and the preservation of human values in education. Together, the conversations highlighted that meaningful progress requires schools to balance innovation with the relationships and experiences that underpin effective learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panel 1: Teacher Recruitment and Retention: A Roadblock to School Growth?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moderated by Ms. Suseela Santhosh, Director, Vishwa Vidyapeeth Group of Schools, the first panel examined the challenges schools face in recruiting suitable teachers and retaining experienced educators. The discussion featured Mr. Garv Agarwal, Director, Edify Schools; Mr. Sreekanth Koganti, Director of Kennedy & NextGen Schools; Ms. Meghana Gorukanti Jupally, Principal, Meru International School; Dr. Usha Reddy, Director, GVK International Schools, Hyderabad & Nellore; Lt. Col. A Sekhar, CEO, Indirapuram Group of Institutions; and Dr. Sneha Nalla, Director, Nalla Malla Reddy Foundation School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion underlined that teachers remain central to a school’s development. Although infrastructure, facilities and institutional reputation influence a school’s appeal, the quality of education ultimately depends on the people delivering it. Recruitment, therefore, must look beyond qualifications and subject knowledge to consider communication, classroom management, attitude and a genuine commitment to student development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Garv Agarwal highlighted the importance of understanding a teacher’s vision for learners. Schools need educators who are invested in helping students progress, rather than candidates selected solely on the strength of their academic credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Sreekanth Koganti emphasised assessing candidates beyond their formal expertise. Personal attributes, professional attitudes and the ability to engage with students are equally important. He also highlighted the connection between recruitment and retention, noting the need for an institutional culture that supports continuous professional development and encourages teachers to grow within their roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Usha Reddy stressed the value of evaluating practical teaching abilities through demonstrations and observing how candidates communicate with students. She also discussed the potential of technology and AI to reduce repetitive workloads. However, she emphasised that technological tools cannot replace the judgement, character-building and personal connections that teachers bring to the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel also considered the responsibilities of school leaders in retaining educators. Lt. Col. A Sekhar highlighted the need to align expectations of teaching excellence with appropriate compensation, professional recognition and opportunities for development. Teachers are increasingly expected to integrate technology, engage with parents, and respond to students’ individual and emotional needs. Meeting these expectations requires schools to provide the necessary support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Empathy emerged as another important aspect of leadership. Teachers need an environment in which they can discuss professional challenges openly and seek guidance without fear of judgement. Fair remuneration, appreciation and meaningful development opportunities must work together to build a stable teaching workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Sneha Nalla discussed practical approaches to teacher selection, including written assessments, presentations and classroom demonstrations. She emphasised the importance of patience, ethical conduct, subject knowledge and the ability to guide students. While teachers must understand AI and educational innovation, they also have a responsibility to nurture moral values, social awareness and environmental consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion concluded with a broader message: recruitment cannot be treated as an isolated administrative activity. Sustainable school growth depends on selecting suitable educators, supporting their professional development, and creating an environment in which they feel valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t
