BHU Launches 63 New SWAYAM Courses for 2025; Delhi University Orders Campus Safety Audit

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has developed 63 new SWAYAM courses for the 2025 session, with registrations currently open. Classes for these online programs will commence on July 21 and August 18. Interested candidates can register through the official portal at swayam.gov.in/INI.

These courses vary in duration, offering options of four, eight, and twelve weeks, and cover a broad range of disciplines, including commerce, management, arts, humanities, social sciences, life sciences, psychology, law, engineering, and Ayurveda. The courses blend traditional subjects with contemporary topics, and exams are scheduled to begin in October 2025.

SWAYAM, an initiative of India’s Ministry of Education, offers free, high-quality online education to learners nationwide. BHU has actively contributed to this platform, developing 37 programs over the past two academic sessions. Recognizing BHU’s significant role, the Ministry appointed it as the National Coordinator (NC) for Institutions of National Importance (INIs) on the SWAYAM platform.

Dr. Ashutosh Mohan from BHU’s Institute of Management Studies serves as the National Coordinator, overseeing the creation and quality assurance of SWAYAM courses developed by over 160 Institutions of National Importance (INIs) nationwide, including IITs and Central Universities. This role empowers BHU to facilitate administration, academic support, and strategic development for SWAYAM MOOCs across these premier institutions.

In addition to its academic contributions, BHU recently launched a dedicated news webpage (news.bhu.ac.in) to highlight university initiatives, student welfare programs, faculty development, and other institutional advancements. This site offers comprehensive updates on campus life, achievements, patents, projects, and more, presented through various sections and multimedia content.

Delhi University Launches Comprehensive Safety Audit Across Colleges

In response to recent infrastructure issues reported in several colleges, Delhi University has issued a directive mandating all affiliated colleges to conduct a thorough safety and infrastructure audit during the summer vacation period.

The Proctor, Professor Rajni Abbi, has instructed college principals, department heads, hostel provosts, and librarians to inspect all rooms and toilets for structural safety, ensuring walls and roofs are sound. The circular emphasizes checking electrical fittings such as fans and lights for proper functioning and verifying the availability of an adequate water supply for drinking and sanitation.

Additional safety measures include ensuring operational lifts, repairing ramps for students with disabilities, maintaining functional fire extinguishers, and carrying out necessary whitewashing of buildings. These steps aim to create a safe, secure, and healthy environment for students upon their return from vacation.

This audit initiative falls under Ordinance XV (Chapter VI) of the Board of Residence, Health, and Discipline. It is part of the University of Delhi’s commitment to safeguarding student welfare and campus infrastructure.
