Any discrepancy in details such as name spelling, category, or exam city can lead to complications during admit card verification or examination day. Candidates are strongly encouraged to download a copy of the corrected application form after submission for reference.

GATE 2026 Exam Schedule and Details

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. IIT-Guwahati opened the online application process on August 25, 2025, and the initial registration phase witnessed thousands of candidates applying from across the country.

This year, GATE will be held for a total of 30 test papers, covering disciplines across engineering, science, architecture, and humanities.
Candidates are allowed to appear for one or up to two test papers (subject to predefined combinations) to enhance their opportunities for postgraduate admissions or PSU recruitment.

Importance of the Correction Window

The correction window is a crucial opportunity for aspirants to ensure that their applications are complete and error-free.
Since GATE scores are valid for three years and serve as a benchmark for M.Tech/M.E. admissions, Ph.D. programs, and recruitment in leading Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), even minor inaccuracies in the application could cause delays or disqualification.

For instance, incorrect category details can affect eligibility for reservation benefits, while errors in name or date of birth can create issues during document verification. Therefore, candidates must use this period to thoroughly cross-check and rectify any inconsistencies.

How to Edit GATE 2026 Application Form

Candidates can follow the steps below to modify their details through the GOAPS portal:

  1. Visit the official GOAPS website: goaps.iitg.ac.in.
  2. Log in using your enrollment ID and password.
  3. Click on the ‘Edit/Modify Application Form’ option.
  4. Review each section carefully and make necessary corrections.
  5. Pay the applicable correction fee (if required).
  6. Submit the form and download the updated copy for future reference.

Candidates should ensure that their latest passport-size photograph, signature, and valid ID proof match the details in their form, as these will be verified during admit card release and examination.

Advisory for GATE Aspirants

IIT-Guwahati has urged applicants to avoid last-minute edits and to complete all modifications well before the deadline to prevent technical delays.
The institute also cautions candidates against relying on third-party agents or cyber cafés for form corrections, recommending that all edits be made personally via the official portal.

Additionally, students must ensure that their category certificates, disability certificates, and valid photo IDs are up to date and comply with the format prescribed in the GATE 2026 information brochure.

Conclusion: Accuracy Is Key to a Smooth GATE Process

The GATE 2026 correction window represents a vital phase in the application process, giving candidates a final chance to ensure their details are precise and compliant with official norms. With no further opportunity after November 3, aspirants must double-check every entry — from name spellings and category status to exam paper choices.

As the exam dates draw closer, IIT-Guwahati’s emphasis on precision reflects the exam’s reputation for discipline, transparency, and fairness. Correcting these details on time will not only prevent disqualification but also ensure a smooth experience leading up to one of India’s most competitive national-level examinations.
