Greenwood High MUN 2025: A Powerful Display of Empathy, Diplomacy, and Youth Leadership

From August 28 to 30, 2025, Greenwood High International Campus, Sarjapur, turned into a global platform of diplomacy and thoughtful discourse as it hosted the Greenwood High Model United Nations (GWHMUN) 2025. The conference, themed “Empathy in a Changing World,” was more than just a simulation of the United Nations — it was a powerful experience that challenged young minds to lead with compassion, listen with purpose, and solve with sincerity.

A Landmark Gathering of Young Diplomats

This year's GWHMUN was one of the largest school-level MUNs in the region, drawing 577 student delegates from 50 leading schools. These young leaders represented over 150 nations across 11 dynamic committees, from classic bodies like the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to more contemporary and specialized forums.

Throughout the three days, participants engaged in rigorous debate, resolution drafting, and consensus-building exercises. But what set this edition apart was its emphasis on empathy — encouraging students to see the real human impact behind global statistics and policy decisions.

Ambassador T.S. Tirumurti Headlines the Closing Ceremony

The conference culminated in a moving closing ceremony, headlined by Ambassador T.S. Tirumurti, former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations. With a distinguished 37-year career in the Indian Foreign Service, Ambassador Tirumurti brought both gravitas and insight to the event.

In his address, he spoke directly to the delegates about the role empathy must play in diplomacy today. He highlighted that successful leadership in the global arena doesn’t come only from knowledge or debate skills but from the ability to understand different perspectives, embrace inclusivity, and pursue dialogue over division.

“See beyond the borders and the statistics,” he said, “and focus on the human stories — because that’s where real change begins.”

His powerful words resonated with students, many of whom cited his message as the highlight of their GWHMUN experience.

Voices from the Committees

Across the 11 committees, delegates tackled pressing issues such as disarmament, human rights, international health crises, and climate change. But what stood out most was the spirit of cooperation and genuine engagement that marked every room.

A delegate from DISEC shared:

“It wasn’t just about winning debates; it was about listening, understanding, and working together.”

Another delegate from UNHRC reflected:

“The theme of empathy reminded us that behind every statistic is a human story that matters.”

This approach fostered a deeper understanding of international relations and challenged participants to think not just as future policymakers, but as responsible global citizens.

The Backbone of GWHMUN: Students and Faculty

Behind the smooth execution of GWHMUN 2025 was a team of dedicated student organizers and faculty advisors who worked tirelessly for months to make the event a success. From managing logistics to curating committees, training chairs, and guiding first-time delegates, their efforts transformed the conference into a true celebration of leadership and learning.

The student secretariat ensured that the academic quality of debates remained high, while also fostering a welcoming environment where every voice could be heard — whether it came from a first-timer or a seasoned MUN participant.

Beyond Academics: A Journey of Empathy and Global Citizenship

GWHMUN 2025 wasn’t just another conference on the academic calendar. It was a transformative experience — one that enabled students to:

  • Develop public speaking and negotiation skills
  • Understand geopolitical dynamics and international frameworks
  • Practice leadership rooted in empathy and respect
  • Build lifelong friendships across schools and backgrounds

It served as a reminder that schools can be powerful platforms for shaping future leaders — not just in knowledge, but in character.

A Lasting Legacy

As the curtains came down on GWHMUN 2025, the atmosphere was filled with pride, inspiration, and a shared sense of accomplishment. Greenwood High had succeeded in delivering an MUN conference that not only met international standards in organization and academic rigour but also fostered a culture of empathy, collaboration, and global vision among the next generation.

The event stands as a shining example of what MUNs should aspire to be: not just arenas for argument, but forums for change, powered by young voices that are informed, inclusive, and inspired.

Congratulations to All Involved

Kudos to the delegates, chairs, faculty mentors, and the entire Greenwood High organizing team for making GWHMUN 2025 a truly impactful and memorable event. The success of this conference lies not just in the resolutions passed, but in the values instilled and the perspectives transformed.

Here’s to more such initiatives that empower students to lead with empathy in an ever-changing world.
