HTET 2026 Registration: Aadhaar Not Mandatory; Haryana Board Lists Acceptable ID Options

The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) has clarified that candidates applying for the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) 2026 are not required to provide Aadhaar at the time of registration. This decision follows directions from the Supreme Court, which allows Aadhaar to be used as an identity proof but does not make it compulsory for examinations.

The clarification aims to ensure that applicants without Aadhaar can still complete the registration process smoothly and avoid last-minute confusion.

Alternative Identity Proofs Accepted

According to BSEH Secretary Munish Sharma, applicants can submit other valid government-issued identity documents for HTET 2026 registration. Accepted IDs include:

  • PAN Card
  • Voter ID
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Any other government-issued identity proof

Candidates can use any one of these documents while filling out their online applications, making the process more inclusive and flexible.

Application Window and Correction Facility

The HTET 2026 online application process is open until January 4, 2026. Applicants can complete registration using either Aadhaar or an alternative ID, depending on availability.

Additionally, a correction window will be available on January 4 and 5, 2026, during which candidates can edit the following details:

  • Personal information
  • Photograph, signature, thumb impression
  • Examination level and subject selection (for Level 2 and Level 3)
  • Category, disability status, and home state

This correction facility ensures that candidates can make necessary adjustments without affecting eligibility.

HTET 2026 Exam Schedule and Levels

The HTET 2026 examination will be conducted on January 17 and 18, 2026, covering three levels:

  • Level 1: Primary Teacher (PRT)
  • Level 2: Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT)
  • Level 3: Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)

The exam window opened in late December 2025, and the closing date for applications is January 4, 2026. Candidates are advised to complete registration promptly and ensure that their identity proofs are valid and up to date.

Context on Aadhaar and Examinations

While Aadhaar has been strongly encouraged for registration in several national-level exams like UGC-NET and JEE Main, the Supreme Court has clarified that it cannot be made mandatory. The Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have advised candidates to update Aadhaar details to avoid errors, but alternatives remain valid, as reaffirmed by the BSEH for HTET 2026.

By allowing multiple ID options, the Haryana Board ensures flexibility, inclusivity, and compliance with legal directives, making the application process smoother for all prospective teachers.
