IIT Kanpur Placements 2025–26: Phase 1 Sees Over 1,200 Offers as Accenture, BPCL, Samsung Lead Hiring
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has successfully concluded Phase 1 of its campus placements for the 2025–26 graduating batch, recording one of its most robust placement performances in recent years. The first phase saw participation from over 250 organisations, which together extended 1,202 job offers across a wide range of sectors and roles.
Out of these, 1,079 offers were accepted by students, including a significant number of pre-placement offers (PPOs). The institute conducted hiring in on-campus, virtual, and hybrid modes, ensuring greater flexibility and wider participation from recruiters across India and abroad.
Broad-Based Recruiter Participation
Phase 1 placements at IIT Kanpur featured a strong mix of domestic and international recruiters, reflecting sustained industry confidence in the institute’s talent pool. Leading multinational corporations, financial institutions, technology firms, and consulting companies were present in large numbers.
Prominent recruiters included:
- Accenture
- Airbus
- American Express
- BlackRock
- Boeing
- Databricks
- Deutsche Bank
- ICICI Bank
- Mastercard
- Meesho
- Navi
- PwC
- Qualcomm
- Samsung
- InMobi
- Square Point Capital
In addition to private-sector firms, several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) participated actively. These included Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), MIDHANI, and Engineers India Limited (EIL), offering roles in core engineering, operations, and management.
International Offers and Global Exposure
A key highlight of Phase 1 was the presence of international job opportunities. A total of 15 students secured overseas offers from companies based in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. These roles spanned technology, analytics, engineering, and finance domains.
IIT Kanpur expects international participation to grow further in Phase 2 of placements, which is scheduled to begin from mid-January 2026. According to the institute, discussions with global recruiters are ongoing, and additional international roles are likely to open up in the coming weeks.
Record-Breaking Day 1 Performance
The 2025–26 placement season at IIT Kanpur began on a historic note. On December 1, the first day of placements, students received 672 job offers, marking the highest-ever day-one tally in the institute’s history.
This represented a 16% increase over last year’s Day 1 placements, underscoring strong early hiring momentum. With some recruitment processes and results still pending, officials indicated that the overall numbers could rise further as confirmations continue to come in.
Rise in Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs)
Pre-placement offers emerged as a major driver of success in Phase 1. IIT Kanpur recorded 253 PPOs, reflecting a 27% increase compared to the previous year. Overall, PPOs contributed to a 20% rise in placements over the last season.
The growth in PPOs points to stronger internship-to-job conversion rates and deeper engagement between students and organisations during internship programmes. It also indicates that recruiters are increasingly confident in extending early offers to IIT Kanpur students based on prior performance.
Diverse Sectors and Roles
Recruitment during Phase 1 covered a broad spectrum of sectors, including:
- Software and IT services
- Artificial intelligence and data analytics
- Finance, banking, and fintech
- Consulting and professional services
- Core engineering and manufacturing
- Aerospace and defence
- Energy and public sector enterprises
This diversity ensured opportunities for students from multiple academic backgrounds, including BTech, dual-degree, MTech, and doctoral programmes, across engineering, sciences, and interdisciplinary fields.
Leadership Speaks on Placement Outcomes
Commenting on the completion of Phase 1, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, highlighted the collective effort behind the placement outcomes.
He said that the results reflect “the academic rigour, adaptability, and industry-readiness of students, as well as the institute’s strong and enduring engagement with leading organisations in India and abroad.” He also praised the Students’ Placement Office for efficiently managing a flexible and inclusive placement process across multiple hiring formats.
Prof. Agrawal reiterated IIT Kanpur’s commitment to nurturing talent capable of contributing meaningfully to both national and global growth, expressing confidence in continued success in the upcoming placement phases.
Flexible and Inclusive Placement Process
One of the defining aspects of the 2025–26 placement season has been the hybrid recruitment model. By allowing on-campus, virtual, and hybrid hiring processes, IIT Kanpur ensured that geographical constraints did not limit recruiter participation.
This approach also benefited students, providing access to a wider range of roles and interview formats, and enabling smoother coordination with international recruiters operating across time zones.
What to Expect in Phase 2
With Phase 1 concluded, attention now shifts to Phase 2 placements, set to begin in mid-January 2026. The institute anticipates:
- Greater participation from international recruiters
- More roles in specialised and emerging technology domains
- Continued engagement from PSUs and core-sector companies
Students who did not secure offers in Phase 1, or those seeking better-aligned roles, will have additional opportunities in the next phase.
Conclusion: A Confident Start to the Placement Season
The completion of Phase 1 of IIT Kanpur Placements 2025–26 marks a strong and confident start to the recruitment season. With over 1,200 offers, a record-breaking Day 1, rising PPO numbers, and expanding global opportunities, the placement outcomes reflect both student preparedness and sustained industry trust.
As Phase 2 approaches, IIT Kanpur is well-positioned to build on this momentum, reinforcing its reputation as one of India’s leading institutions for producing industry-ready, globally competitive graduates.
