JEE Main 2025 Counselling: CSAB Announces Schedule for Special and Supernumerary Rounds

The Central Selection Allocation Board (CSAB) has officially released the counselling schedule for the special and supernumerary rounds of admissions based on JEE Main 2025 results. These rounds offer crucial opportunities for candidates seeking admission to BTech programs at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and other participating technical institutes across India. This blog post outlines the entire process, including eligibility criteria, fees, document requirements, and key instructions for candidates seeking to secure their seats in these rounds.

Overview of JEE Main 2025 Counselling Rounds

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main remains the primary gateway for admission to premier engineering institutions in India, including the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The counselling process is managed by the Central Selection Allocation Board (CSAB) and consists of multiple rounds. This year, the counselling process includes:

  • Three regular rounds of counselling under the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and CSAB,
  • Followed by special rounds for vacant seats, and
  • Supernumerary rounds are reserved explicitly for candidates from certain Union Territories.

The special and supernumerary rounds offer additional opportunities to fill vacant seats, ensuring maximum utilization of available seats in top technical institutes.

Who Is Eligible for CSAB Special and Supernumerary Rounds?

Special Round Eligibility

The special round is organized only for vacant seats remaining after the completion of the three JoSAA counselling rounds in the NIT system. Candidates who have qualified in JEE Main 2025 but have not yet secured admission have the chance to apply during this round.

Supernumerary Round Eligibility

The supernumerary round targets candidates belonging to the Union Territories (UTs) of:

  • Andaman & Nicobar Islands,
  • Lakshadweep,
  • Daman & Diu, and
  • Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

To be eligible for this round, candidates must:

  • Have appeared and qualified in JEE Main 2025,
  • Not have a valid allocated seat in the NIT+ system after all JoSAA and CSAB rounds,
  • Not currently occupying any seat allocated during the special rounds,
  • Not all candidates allocated seats under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Candidates meeting these criteria can participate in the supernumerary round to compete for reserved seats in specific National Institutes of Technology (NITs), such as NIT Durgapur, NIT Calicut, and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat.

Important Dates and Counselling Schedule

The CSAB has outlined a clear timetable for the counselling rounds, which candidates should follow carefully to avoid missing deadlines. Although exact dates vary each year, the schedule typically includes:

  • Registration and choice filling for special and supernumerary rounds,
  • Seat allotment announcement,
  • Document verification process,
  • Seat acceptance fee payment,
  • Reporting to the allotted institutes.

Candidates should regularly check the official CSAB website and notifications to stay updated.

Fee Structure and Payment Details

Candidates allocated seats in the supernumerary round must pay the Supernumerary Seat Acceptance Fee (SSAF). The details are as follows:

  • For General, General-EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates: Rs 38,000
  • For SC, ST, and PwD candidates: Rs 18,000 (first-time allotment)

The SSAF includes a non-refundable CSAB processing charge of Rs 5,000. If candidates have paid any fees during JoSAA or CSAB special rounds, those payments will be adjusted against the SSAF, with only the balance payable.

Candidates must pay the SSAF online after seat allotment and document verification to confirm their seat.

Document Requirements for Verification

To participate in the counselling rounds, candidates must upload several essential documents on the CSAB portal for online verification:

  • Class 10 Certificate or Birth Certificate (for age and identity proof),
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet (qualification proof),
  • Category certificate (if applicable) for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS candidates,
  • UDID Card and/or PwD certificate(s) for Persons with Disabilities,
  • Proof of state of eligibility,
  • Medical Certificate (if applicable).

Failure to upload the correct documents may result in the cancellation of seat allotment.

Counselling Process: Steps to Follow

  1. Registration and Choice Filling: Eligible candidates must register online and fill in their preferred choices from the available seat matrix, which includes all branches and institutes participating in the special and supernumerary rounds.

  2. Seat Allotment: The allocation of seats will be done based on the Common Rank List (CRL) rank of JEE Main 2025. The allotment result will be announced online.

  3. Document Upload and Verification: Candidates must upload the required documents to the CSAB portal within the specified timeframe for verification.

  4. Fee Payment: After successful verification, candidates must pay the SSAF online to confirm their admission.

  5. Physical Reporting: Candidates who confirm their seat online must report physically at the allotted institute as per the schedule to complete admission formalities and pay any remaining institute fees. The fee paid to CSAB will be adjusted against the institute fees after deducting applicable processing charges.
