Delhi University Achieves NAAC A++ Grade in Second Cycle — A Landmark in Academic Excellence

DU secures the highest possible grade with a CGPA of 3.55, reaffirming its status among India’s premier higher education institutions.

The University of Delhi (DU) has reached a historic milestone by securing the highest NAAC accreditation grade of A++ in its second assessment cycle, achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.55. This remarkable recognition, announced on August 8, 2025, will remain valid for five years, until 2029.

This is a significant leap from the previous cycle of 2018, when DU was awarded an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.28. The latest achievement reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to quality enhancement, innovation in teaching and research, and strong governance practices.

A Landmark Moment for DU

Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh called this a “landmark moment” in the university’s history, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh expressed pride and gratitude to all members of the DU community.

“This achievement is the result of the dedication and collective effort of our faculty, students, non-teaching staff, alumni, and stakeholders. It motivates us to set higher benchmarks and expand the horizons of excellence in teaching, research, and service to society,” Singh said.

The official DU handle celebrated the achievement with a message on social media:

“Proud Moment for DU! The University of Delhi has been awarded the NAAC A++ Grade with a CGPA of 3.55 in Cycle 2 Accreditation, announced today, the highest possible grade! This achievement reflects the collective dedication of our faculty, students, staff, alumni & stakeholders.”

Why This Accreditation Matters

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is a key body that evaluates and accredits higher education institutions in India based on multiple criteria, including teaching-learning processes, research quality, infrastructure, governance, and student support systems.

An A++ grade is not only the highest possible rating but also a reflection of:

  • Academic excellence in curriculum delivery and assessment methods
  • Research innovation with measurable societal impact
  • Strong institutional governance and transparent administrative processes
  • Commitment to student-centric growth and community engagement

With this recognition, DU reaffirms its position among the country's top-ranked universities, strengthening its credibility for future collaborations, funding opportunities, and global academic partnerships.

The Road to A++: Continuous Improvement

The jump from a 3.28 CGPA in 2018 to 3.55 in 2025 was the result of sustained strategic initiatives:

  1. Curriculum Modernisation – DU has consistently updated its curriculum to align with industry needs and global academic standards.
  2. Research Promotion – Increased focus on interdisciplinary and socially impactful research.
  3. Infrastructure Development – Investment in smart classrooms, modern laboratories, and improved student facilities.
  4. Skill-Oriented Learning – Enhanced opportunities for experiential learning, internships, and entrepreneurship development.
  5. Governance Reforms – Transparent decision-making and stronger institutional planning mechanisms.

Future Goals Post-A++ Recognition

Vice-Chancellor Singh stressed that while the A++ grade is a matter of pride, it is also a stepping stone for greater achievements. DU plans to:

  • Expand international collaborations with leading universities worldwide.
  • Strengthen digital learning ecosystems to enhance accessibility.
  • Increase research funding and output in high-impact areas.
  • Promote inclusive education policies to cater to diverse student groups.

Challenges Amidst Success: The Veer Savarkar College Delay

While DU celebrates its accreditation success, another development has faced procedural roadblocks — the opening of Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh, the first DU-affiliated college established in nearly three decades.

The plan, announced in March 2025 during DU’s 92nd Annual Court Meeting, aimed to begin student admissions in the 2025-26 academic session. However, the process has been delayed due to pending approvals from the Ministry of Education and Finance.

Rajni Abbi, DU South Campus Director, told The Indian Express:

“We plan to start the admissions process as soon as we clear all these procedures. If we get all the approvals, we plan to admit students and start the session, even 15 days late if needed, but all this is provided we clear all the pending procedures.”

The delay highlights the bureaucratic challenges often faced in expanding higher education infrastructure, even when student demand is high.

A++ Accreditation: Boosting DU’s Global Standing

NAAC’s A++ rating places DU in a stronger position for global university rankings and academic exchange programmes. The recognition could lead to:

  • Increased student applications from across India and abroad.
  • Greater eligibility for national and international grants.
  • Stronger industry partnerships for internships, placements, and research collaborations.

For students, this translates into enhanced career prospects and access to a higher quality of education.

Looking Ahead

With its highest-ever NAAC score, Delhi University stands at a defining moment in its century-old legacy. The challenge now lies in maintaining and surpassing these standards while addressing emerging needs in the education sector — from digital transformation to skill-based learning.

The A++ accreditation is not just a badge of honour; it’s a responsibility to continue delivering excellence in teaching, research, and community service. As DU moves forward, it seeks to balance tradition with innovation, ensuring that its graduates are academically strong and equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.
