HGIS Secures Third Position at PEVEES MUN 4.0 in Kerala

The spirit of diplomacy, leadership, and thoughtful debate came alive in Kerala as PEVEES MUN 4.0 was conducted on August 8th and 9th, 2026. Bringing together 106 delegates representing 12 schools, including a few international schools from the Middle East, the conference provided students with an engaging platform to explore global issues, understand diplomatic perspectives and develop the confidence to articulate their views.

Among the participating institutions, HGIS delivered a commendable performance, securing the Third Position overall at the conference. The achievement reflects the preparation, commitment and communication skills demonstrated by its student delegates across different committees.

Nine students from Classes VIII, IX and XI represented HGIS at the event. Their participation resulted in notable individual recognitions across three important committees, adding further distinction to the school’s overall achievement.

A Strong Showing Across Committees

The students competed in different committees and demonstrated their ability to research issues, present arguments and participate in structured diplomatic discussions. Their achievements included awards in the United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Security Council and Economic and Social Council.

The individual recognitions received by the HGIS delegates were:

• Devansh Kumar (Class XI) – Best Speaker in UNGA
• Ayushman Singh (Class VIII) – Best Peacekeeping Delegate of UNSC
• Khush Pandya (Class IX) – High Commendation Prize in ECOSOC, securing first position

These awards highlight the range of skills displayed by the students. From persuasive public speaking to peacekeeping discussions and economic and social deliberations, the delegates were able to make their presence felt in their respective committees.

For students, such experiences extend learning beyond textbooks. A Model United Nations conference requires participants to examine international affairs, understand different national positions and construct arguments based on evidence. It also encourages students to listen carefully, respond thoughtfully and negotiate with peers holding contrasting viewpoints.

The individual awards secured by the HGIS delegation demonstrate the varied strengths of its students.

Devansh Kumar’s recognition as Best Speaker in UNGA highlights his ability to communicate ideas effectively in a committee where delegates are expected to discuss matters of international importance. Effective speaking at an MUN requires clarity, confidence, and an understanding of the subject under discussion.

In the UNSC, Ayushman Singh was recognised as the Best Peacekeeping Delegate. The award reflects his contribution to discussions involving peacekeeping and the responsibilities associated with addressing international conflicts and security concerns.

Meanwhile, Khush Pandya earned the High Commendation Prize in ECOSOC, securing first position. His achievement demonstrates the delegation’s strength across different areas of discussion and highlights the ability of younger students to engage confidently with complex global themes.

More Than a Competition

While securing the third position overall is a matter of pride for HGIS, the significance of the event extends beyond the trophies and rankings. Conferences such as this allow students to experience a form of learning that is collaborative, competitive, and highly interactive.

Participants must prepare extensively before entering committee sessions. They research their assigned countries and topics, understand international perspectives and develop possible solutions to complex problems. Once the conference begins, they must apply that preparation while responding to questions, negotiating with other delegates and presenting their positions.

The Role of Dedicated Mentorship

Behind every successful student delegation is considerable preparation and guidance. HGIS has expressed heartfelt appreciation to its mentors, Mr Parmeshwar Singh, HOD English, Mrs Hema Shah and Mr Naresh, PGT English, for their role in supporting the students.

Mentors play an important part in preparing students for MUN conferences. Their contribution can involve helping students understand committee procedures, refine speeches, strengthen research and develop arguments. More importantly, mentors encourage students to approach discussions with confidence while remaining respectful of differing opinions.

The achievements at PEVEES MUN 4.0 therefore represent a collective effort involving students, mentors and the wider school community.

A Proud Moment for HGIS

Finishing as the Second Runner-Up overall, or securing the third position, marks a significant achievement for HGIS. With nine students participating across three committees and three delegates receiving individual recognition, the delegation demonstrated both collective strength and individual excellence.

The event also offered the students an opportunity to test their skills in a demanding environment alongside delegates from schools across different locations, including international institutions from the Middle East.

As schools increasingly seek opportunities that prepare students for a complex and interconnected world, MUN conferences provide a meaningful platform for developing communication, leadership, diplomacy and critical thinking.
