CLAT 2025 Counselling Begins: Key Dates, Eligibility, and Step-by-Step Registration Guide

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially initiated the CLAT 2025 counselling process for undergraduate admissions. If you've been invited, it's time to act swiftly and ensure your seat in one of India’s prestigious National Law Universities. The process, which began on May 17, 2025, is available only to eligible candidates and will continue until 5:00 PM on May 21, 2025, through the official website: consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

This blog outlines everything you need to know—from eligibility criteria and registration steps to key dates, seat allotment options, refund policies, and required documentation.

Who Can Participate?

Only candidates who received an official invitation via email, SMS, and their CLAT 2025 portal account are eligible to register for the counselling. If you're among the selected, your next steps involve:

  1. Logging into your CLAT 2025 account.
  2. Confirming eligibility.
  3. Completing a two-step registration process:

  • Updating NLU preferences.
  • Paying the counselling registration fee.

Candidates who previously registered and paid must not register again, but can update their preferences before the deadline. If you paid earlier but are now ineligible based on revised results, you will receive a full fee refund.

Counselling Registration Fee

  • General Category: ₹30,000
  • Reserved Categories (ST/SC/OBC/BC/EWS/PwD): ₹20,000

The registration fee is refundable under specific conditions elaborated in the refund section below.

Seat Allotment and Counselling Rounds

CLAT 2025 admissions will proceed through three counselling rounds, starting with the first allotment list on May 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM.

Upon allotment, candidates will have three options:

  • Freeze:
Accept the allotted seat and exit the counselling process. You must pay a non-refundable confirmation fee of ₹20,000.

  • Float:
Accept the current allotment but remain eligible for a higher preference in subsequent rounds. The ₹20,000 confirmation fee is still applicable.

  • Exit:
You can withdraw from the counselling altogether. If you make this choice after paying the fee, the ₹20,000 will be forfeited. Partial refunds are possible under specific timelines.

Refund Policy

Refunds depend on the timing of withdrawal and seat allotment outcomes:

  • Full Refund Eligibility:

    • Not allotted any seat by the end of the third round.

    • Withdraw before 1:00 PM on June 9, 2025.

  • Partial Refund (₹5,000 deduction):

    • Withdrawal after the deadline or due to ineligibility post fee payment.

It’s crucial to act within these deadlines to avoid financial penalties.

Required Documents

During the admission process, candidates must upload or present the following:

  • Class 10 and 12 mark sheets
  • CLAT 2025 admit card
  • Transfer certificate
  • Valid caste/category certificate (if applicable)
  • Domicile certificate
  • Other documents as specified by the allotted NLU
